Trex Composite Decking
Enjoy A Strong Deck With The Beauty Of Wood
You Love…And Less Of The Constant Upkeep!
Shiner Exteriors proudly specializes in Trex composite decking. Trex offers a perfect alternative to wood decking for homes and businesses in the Northern VA–Suburban Maryland area.
Nothing beats wood’s natural style… but it DOES require a good amount of upkeep.
If you want the look of wood without the upkeep, Trex composites are solid-core decking with specialized outer shells made to outperform wood.
Expect almost zero maintenance (except cleaning), weather-ready durability, and beautiful styling suitable for your home or business. Learn more about Trex composite decking lines below. If you have questions, contact Shiner today and get answers!
Trex’s Better, Best, And Luxury Decking Lines
Trex offers five composite decking lines ranging from good to better to best and into their single high-end Luxury line. At Shiner, good…isn’t good enough. For our Northern VA–Suburban Maryland customers, only better, best and the higher-tier decking will do—custom styling, long-term performance, and affordability.

Better: The Trex Select Decking Line
The Trex Select line is their most common or standard decking line. It offers all the core benefits of Trex decking (low maintenance, protective high-durability shell, etc.) at an affordable price.
A slight difference is that these boards are thinner than higher-tier boards.
Popular Benefits Of Select Decking
- 35-year Limited Residential Fade & Stain Warranty
- Two monochromatic, natural colors – Pebble Grey & Saddle Select
- Moderately priced but delivers excellent performance in our region
Select is a perfect ‘middle ground’ choice between the lowest-value and luxury decking options—definitely not an entry-level deck. The decking is scratch- and weather-resistant.

Best: Trex Transcend Decking
Transcend composite decking is thicker for advanced protection and has an extra-durable, three-sided shell. Hence, you get a longer, stronger, more comprehensive warranty against fading, staining, scratching, and mold.
You can also kick your styling up a few notches with their vibrant medley of colors, such as Island Mist, Spiced Rum, or Rope Swing. Transcend is the most popular line our customers select for their decks. Here are a few reasons why.
Popular Benefits Of Transcend Decking
- A rock-solid 50-year Limited Residential Warranty
- Transcend boards are flexible and highly resistant to scuffs and scratches.
- The boards are heavier than traditional wood and never need staining.
Worried about how hot the boards get in the hotter months? The Trex Transcend Lineage line is engineered with heat-mitigating technology. In other words, they’re designed (and capped) to reflect more sunshine and keep your deck cooler, even on the hottest days.
And though regular Transcend boards mimic wood’s more rounded and ridged patterns, Lineage boards are linear for a straighter appearance.

Luxury: Trex Signature Decking
Signature is Trex’s top-of-the-line composite decking. It’s built with recycled aluminum and a combination of recycled plastic and wood. And this makes it hardier than the hardest woods.
Essentially, this ‘crowning achievement’ line kicks all the benefits of Trex decking into high gear—durability, styling, custom options, and eco-friendliness.
Popular Features Of Signature Decking
- 50-Year Limited Residential Fade & Stain Warranty.
- Comes in the foggy island ‘Whidbey” or sandy “Ocracoke” colors.
- This line brings a clean, luxurious aesthetic to your outdoor spaces.
Want the look of an exotic hardwood without the maintenance requirements?
If your answer is “Yes!” then Trex Signature decking might be right for your project.
Trex Railing Options
What is a composite deck without railing? Railing is actually one of the most important features to our customers. They not only add a lot of versatility in the aesthetics department, but ensure proper safety and coding requirements are met.
Trex railing is built to be strong, durable, and exceed building codes. Like their decking itself, their railing lines are engineered for long-term performance with high resistance to rot and decay.
Popular Features Of Trex Railing Lines
- Signature Railing is a sleek modern approach where you choose from cable, glass, rods or aluminum balusters with thin black aluminum posts.
- Transcend Railing is the most popular with sturdy posts and colored square balusters or round aluminum balusters in many colors.
- Select Railing is a more economical choice of railing that combines composite rails with your choice of balusters.
Your Shiner project consultant can browse the different lines with you, look at all the railing options, and design a style that matches you, your deck, your home, and your budget.

What People Say About Shiner Exteriors

They even called earlier to let me know that they…
Shiners was quick in coming over for an estimate for a wake trim due to wind damage and scheduling was easy. They even called earlier to let me know that they were coming earlier than the original scheduled date which I appreciate that they’re on top of their work load for their customers.
I highly recommend them….
Shiner Exteriors were very professional from start to end. I called several companies to compare and even though they were not the cheapest I decided to go with them because of their extensive experience and service. They did a fantastic job of fixing my roof after a lightning strike. I highly recommend them.
Since my husband and I are both 85, I doubt…
Overall, we thought that Shiner Exteriors had done a good job. Apparently, it did not quite satisfy Mynor, one of their inspectors. He came out, took pictures and subsequently sent Ernesto and companion to make several improvements on the roof. They spent about five hours in the process. We were quite pleased that the company insisted on a great job, rather than a good one. Shiner Roofing, as it was called back then, replaced our roof in 1994, and it lasted 31 years! Since my husband and I are both 85, I doubt that we will be able to put our new roof to the '31 year test'.
A dependable, reasonable and honest business
I certainly would recommend Shiner Exteriors again to anyone
Friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable

Your Shiner project consultant will help you consider all the important factors when choosing which Trex color best suits your home or business (there are currently over twenty among their different lines). We’ll look at your styling or vision, the architectural style you like, and your surrounding landscape, then provide samples and recommendations.
Can I Finance My Decking Project?
Of course. Shiner has safe, reliable financing options to make your decking project more affordable. Please let your project consultant know you’re interested, and they’ll explain the common plans we work with. You can also visit our financing page for more information.
Will You Pressure Me To Choose Trex?
No. Sales pressure is NOT a part of our customer-focused process. Our goal is simply to provide information to help you with your decking project (scope, pricing, coding, etc.) and explain material options that fit your vision and budget.
What Other Services Do You Provide?
You can turn to Shiner Exteriors for all your exterior remodeling needs. In addition to decking, our services include commercial roofing, residential roofing, premium siding, window replacement, entry door replacement, and gutter replacement (as well as gutter protection).
How Long Does The Coloring Last?
Part of the allure of Trex composite decking is that the boards never need to be painted or stained. The color you choose is engineered into the ultra-durable shell of each board. Their modern manufacturing techniques reduce the risk of fading, which is why Trex offers strong warranties that cover fading.
How Long Will My Trex Deck Last?
The answer to this comes in two parts. First, our deck design and installation will be detailed and precise to ensure it lasts as long as possible. And second, maintenance, upkeep, and cleaning are easy. Assuming you take good care of it, the deck can last many decades.
Am I In Your Service Area?
Our office is located in Sterling, Virginia. We serve Northern Virginia, Maryland, and the Suburban Maryland region. Visit our Service Areas page to learn more. You can also visit our Latest Projects page to see what we’ve been up to.
Is A Trex Deck Better Than A Wood Deck?
In truth, only you can say whether the beautiful styling, grains, and textures of Trex boards are better or comparable to wood. Only you can decide whether you want to deal with the demands of a wood deck or prefer the low-maintenance longevity of Trex. Our project consultant is happy to review the benefits, features, and details with you to help you make a well-informed decision.
Is Trex Decking Considered Expensive?
Whether Trex composite decking is ‘expensive’ or not depends on what you’re comparing it to. For example, it’s not as expensive as exotic hardwoods, but it costs more than lower-quality composites. Pricing also largely depends on the scope of your decking project and how many materials are involved. Our project consultant will help you weigh your budget with options.
